Bali, NAWACITA– Pullman Bali Legian Beach has a global reputation for being situated in vibrant, energetic parts of town. The brand has an incredible commitment to design, art, photography and local culture and collaborates with artists and designers around the world to help bring its design vision to life. A real need has been identified to facilitate the implementation of arts within the hotel. This is why the “Artist Playground” program has been designed. Pullman Bali Legian Beach will launch its 17th Pullman Exhibition showcasing the series of “PLASTICOLOGY” painting and some of the artists’ greatest creations.
Made Muliana Bayak, born 1980 in Tampaksiring, Gianyar showed promising artistic and musical talent from an early age and went on to study at the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Denpasar, 1999-2006. It was here that he met his future wife, Komang Kartika Dewi. They have one son, Damar Langit Timur.
Made Bayak exhibits his works regularly in Bali and recently exhibited in Italy, Germany, and Poland. His paintings mostly about Environmental Campaigns, Indonesia Issue, Human Rights, Balinese culture and Balinese modernization which is not in accordance with the identity of Bali. He has been nominated as TOP 20 Nokia award (2000 – 2001), 20 Nomination Bazar Art Award (2010), E-Idea Competition (2011), Sustainable Design Category and project presentation (2011). Youth Change Makers Summit and project presentation 2012 in Bandung, West Java and Finalist in Singapore’s prestigious 2013 Sovereign Art Prize.
On the basis of the increasing awareness of Balinese about the need for plastic waste management, Bayak has created a series of art projects themed “Plasticology,” a concept that fuses the words “plastic” and “ecology.” His future plan is to display other works within the “Plasticology” series, in other exhibit settings.
Bayak believes strongly that such small actions, starting with himself, have the potential to influence others “The idea first arose with my first solo exhibition in Ubud in 2008. There was a challenge to transform waste into works of art. I tried to find a technique that would allow the rubbish to remain as artwork, even after the exhibition concluded,” Bayak explains.
In the context of the “Go Green” discourse, campaigned by the government throughout Bali, artwork from plastic waste could be the most obvious implementation of an eco-friendly concept. Mark Gaynor, General Manager of Pullman Bali Legian Beach said “ Pullman Bali Legian Beach is deeply committed to raising awareness of the consequences of poor waste management. Plasticology is a natural fit as part of our broader campaign and scope of activities to achieve this. We look forward to sharing Made Bayak’s thought provoking art based on these themes with our guests. ”
Bayak has consistently promoted this technique and creative process through art exhibitions, workshops in schools, and various collectives concerned about the environment. This art project goes to communities and schools around Bali, to share this activity troughs art presentation and workshop. With hope more people aware about this issue and take real action on it. . The exhibition will run from 14 November 2019 until 11 May 2020.
